Celebrating National Children’s Dental Health Month

Did you know that February is National Children’s Dental Health Month? This month and all year long, our commitment to kids’ (and kids at heart’s) healthy, happy smiles is worth celebrating! Just read on as we share five simple tips to promoting your child’s dental health, including how to enjoy an all-smiles experience at your dentist in Port Orange. Take a look.

The power of preventative care

By bringing your child to the dentist at an early age, you can help set them up for healthy habits for their entire life! Plus, the power of preventative care cannot be overstated. Regular visits can lead to less (or no) cavities, a brighter smile, and a closer look at gum health and teeth growth, allowing your dentist to observe and treat any potential issues before they arise.

Lead by example

As is the case with any new experience—like a visit to the doctor’s or the first day of school—trips to the dentist may seem strange to children. However, you can help ease any uncertainty by leading by example! If your child sees you coming in for regular, stress-free visits, they will grow to understand that the dentist can be a fun, friendly place.

(Tip: We understand that a child’s first visit to the dentist can be a big deal for parents! Kids can pick up on parents’ cues, and will likely follow suit whether you are feeling relaxed or stressed out. Here at The Pampered Tooth, we invite you to ask whatever questions you may have so that you and your child feel comfortable and at-home, on your first visit and every one that follows.)

You can also lead by example at home! When you floss or brush your teeth with your children, you will be showing them that these healthy habits are good for everyone in the family, not just kids.

Embrace healthy habits

In addition to regular teeth brushing (for younger children, you’ll want to help them brush so that you’re sure no tooth is overlooked), you can help your child embrace healthy habits such as swapping soda for water and other less acidic drinks, flossing and avoiding unsafe materials like nut shells or packages to rip open.

Have some fun

Children’s dental care is essential—but who said it can’t be fun, too? Kids love games, so you might consider options like having your child mark a colorful chart every time they brush their teeth or learning about fun teeth trivia together. Of course, we can’t forget about the time-honored tradition of the Tooth Fairy! A special gift whenever your child loses a tooth can help promote a positive association around all things dental care.

Find a dentist who’s passionate about patient care and happiness

The right dentist can help your child feel comfortable and at-ease, all while promoting a strong, lifelong relationship with healthy teeth. Fortunately, The Pampered Tooth is your go-to team. We strive to create an environment where kids, parents and everyone in between feel welcome—a serene space where you can enjoy a dental experience like no other!
